There be good news and bad news in this update.

The Good
- I'm stitching again! After nearly half a year of not being able to touch my work I'm back at it!

- I've been focusing on a pattern of my cousin James. Here's where I was back in July and one from today.
July 13/12, Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App January 15/13, Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

- Yesterday my uncle and his wife [yes she is technically my aunt, but seeing's how I went to high school with her ^_~ I don't call her aunt] had a beautiful baby girl! Named Ellie!

The Bad
- Yesterday I had to put down my cat Chaz. He was a rescue we took in when he was already 9 years old with a hole in his heart. He lived with us until he was 14 and I think had a wonderful life! Despite his age and medical problems, he'd still race around the house like a total idiot from time to time. But the last few days he'd been having trouble with his mouth, I think his teeth were beginning to rot and it was causing him a lot of pain. Due to his heart problem he couldn't be put under to have any dental work done so there really wasn't any other option.

The Makes me Feel a Little Better
- Shuffles suggested that I cross stitch a picture of Chaz when I felt up to it and that idea alone made me feel a whole lot better. I immediately started looking for a good picture and designed this pattern.
I'll be stitching this on black fabric which makes for a very dramatic look, just like how I did Romeo for my mum. I really can't wait for the supplies to arrive so I can get started! It'll be the first project that I've ever done for myself.

I could use some opinions, to help narrow done some of my choices ^_~ I'm looking to stitch these flowers:

all opinions are welcome!

Also feel free to suggest a different color, if you think one would work ^_^

_lyra_b and zeusgirl both suggested a light blue.

I think I have too many choices for blueCollapse )

rayma3 thought a yellow would work nice too.

Possible yellows to choose fromCollapse )

This being my cross-stitching journal, it just seems wrong that I haven't posted this completion here yet.

Whiskers is done! \o/

Started: December 5th 2009
Finished: May 2nd 2010

I'm thrilled with the end result of this pattern, I know in the beginning I was concerned about how this picture would transfer to a cross-stitch, I couldn't be happier.

Been working a little on Dodger since finishing Whiskers and I've also decided that I'm not going to use the store bought wolf pattern for Kiba [it pissed me off one too many times and made 'The List'] I've since created an original wolf pattern which I'll be much happier working on.

I'm in the home stretch now with Whiskers!

I only have two part pages [3 and 6] that need to be stitched and then I'm done! I find this thought hard to absorb since I've been working on her for so long and despite making progress in leaps and bounds she's the largest project to date that I've done so it tended to feel like I was moving in slow motion ^_~

The End is in sight and I'm most excited! Should make my tentative goal too *fingers crossed*

\o/ Here have some pictures

Her black fur entirely done. - Page 4 done!

Whiskrs' face entirely finished - Page 5 complete!

Whiskers give me happy feet!

I accomplished my goal for today!

And I was really surprised at what a difference this progress made to the overall look of the pattern and my feelings about nearing completion.

I just wanted to finish off each column of stitches that I'd started at some point in the black of Whiskers fur.

With this done I only have 3 column left in the black. Once I'm done that I'll finish her face and then move onto the background.

My goal is to have her finished by the end of April

*hangs head*

I have been seriously lax in updating this journal. When I have pictures to share I tend to post on cross_stitch so apologies to those of you who were following along here. Now that its on my mind I ought to update more regularly. I like to try and remember to take a picture each day [so long as there's been some progress] but that doesn't really need to be shared with the community ^_~

I already think I post a little too often, but when cross-stitching is all you do...^_~

Ome Jan and WhiskersCollapse )

I'm feeling really optimistic about my projects especially Whiskers like the home stretch is insight ^_^ to date she's the biggest project I've done, not only that, but Whiskers is the first ever pattern I stitched where the entire background was also a part of the picture.

Now I can be even more productive! the 2 Q-snap frames that I ordered arrived today. So here's what I have on my frames right now

11x11" - Whiskers
11x17" - Kiba
17x17" - Dodger

and on my adjustable frame

Ome Jan with Joachim

My cousin Alwin, commissioned me to stitch a couple of pictures for him. One of his son Joachim and then this one for his father my Ome Jan. Since Alwin wanted to give this to Ome Jan on his birthday [November 4th] I wanted to get a start on it sooner rather than later just so I know its started and then I can work on it sporadically over the next few months.

So here have a few pictures of the progress so far.

If you can tell in this last picture that a head is beginning to form [I can, but who's to say that isn't just because I already know] that's my Ome Jan.

I hit sort of a wall working on Whiskers, felt like my brain was attempting melt each time I worked on her. Had she been my first project I would be seriously worried that I can start projects but not finish them. Thankfully I don't think that's the case.

Considering how today has turned out I can't help but worry if this is the same sort of thing that happened with my writing, my interest simply evaporates with no other explanation than that's something that can come with the territory when dealing with Asperger's

I'm only slightly considering this as it would have to be several days like this before I'd be truly worried [its hard not worrying about the worst case scenario]

So to give my brain a break I decided to pick up a different pattern.

After failing at Whiskers this afternoon I drew him back out but I'm also having a hard time focusing on this too.

Here's hoping I'll have a better time of it tomorrow, 'cause my list of projects is still growing. [in no particular order]
